The trees are lit and there’s a chill in the air, sure signs that Christmas is coming to the Beckley area! And there’s no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than paying a visit to Santa or creating your own ornaments at The Pottery Place.

This year, there are a number of holiday-themed events in the area that are sure to be fun for the whole family.

Appalachian Coal Town Christmas

Underground mine tours, a marshmallow roast, ice skating and caroling await you at Appalachian Coal Town Christmas. An ornament workshop at the Youth Museum and both gift shops will be open for holiday shopping. All of the Christmas lights and decorations will be above ground.

43rd Annual Thanksgiving Day Run

For more than 40 years, Beckley area residents have started their Thanksgiving with the YMCA of Southern West Virginia. The tradition continues with the Thanksgiving Day Run at the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex.  Choose to run or walk five miles or you can complete the one-mile Family Fun Run!

Santa’s Christmas Adventure

Create memories that will last a lifetime at Santa’s Christmas Adventure at The Resort at Glade Springs. Children will write letters to Santa Claus, assist Santa’s elves in his workshop, try Mrs. Claus’ Christmas cookies, and even meet Santa Claus himself on this fun, one-of-a-kind experience. New Year’s Eve Celebration – Adult Celebration, Teen Bash and Kids Camp

Party through the decades with this 70s disco, 80 dance and 90s pop-themed party! Entertainment provided by Bravo Live with DJ and dance party. Party favors will be provided along with champagne toast at midnight. A Teen Bash and Kids Camp will also be available for those under 21. One and two night stay packages available.

For a little adventure this holiday season, stop by the Outside In Climbing Gym to give rock climbing a try! Whether you’re an accomplished climber or brand new to the sport, the gym has everything you need to have a great day on the climbing wall. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground, then visit the Chocolate Moose adjacent to the climbing gym to warm up with a coffee or sweet treat.

A Christmas Tree Miracle

Filmed largely in West Virginia, this heartwarming Christmas story is a reminder in the power of miracles. Join us downtown the weekend after Thanksgiving for Shop Small, the annual city tree lighting ceremony, and a Christmas movie!
