Some special events to look forward during the month of July in the City of Beckley include:
Fridays in the Park concerts are held at Word Park on Neville Street from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm, weather-permitting. The July schedule begins with the Quiet Enough band and Theatre West Virginia (Hatfields & McCoys songs) on July 6. The School of Harmony/Academy of Performing Arts students will perform on July 13. Patricia Smith will open the show on July 20, followed by Theatre WV (songs from Rocket Boys the Musical). July 27 will feature a dance theme with line dancers from the Mercer County and Raleigh County Commissions on Aging, followed by Beckley Area Shag Club dancers, and a Willy Wonka, Jr preview by Theatre WV.
The Uptown Tailgate Farmers Market plans to open on Monday, July 9. This summer’s market will be held on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Parking Garage Plaza. If you have extra produce and would like to be a market vendor, or for information, contact the WVU Extension office at 304-255-9321.
Relay for Life will be held on Friday, July 13 at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza on Neville Street from 6:00 pm to midnight. The event is a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society.
The City of Beckley’s annual Cruise-in Car & Bike show will take place on Saturday, July 28. The streets in uptown will be reserved for vehicle line-up beginning at 5:00 pm. The first 90 show vehicle owners who register at Word Park between 5:00 and 6:00 pm will receive a dash plaque. Vehicle registration is $10. Specialty awards by City departments will be presented, along with door prizes. Zoo of Trees will perform at the gazebo between 6:00 and 7:30 pm.
Also, watch for public art projects / murals taking place during the month around town, along with summer activities at the Youth Museum/Mine/New River Park Complex, new playgrounds at East Park and Temple Street, plus the opening of Beckley’s Historic Black Knight later in the month.
