This event is catered to children and persons with Sensory Processing Disorder.

While most people associate the condition with persons with Autism, not everyone with sensory issues is on the spectrum. Some have ADHD, OCD or developmental delays.
Or they may not have a diagnosis at all. They can become overstimulated in loud and chaotic situations. Our goal is to be able to interact with Santa, something many families take for granted.

A visit with Santa should not be traumatic or stressful.

Our Sensory Santa event allows for children to get comfortable in the environment, play, work on a craft, have a snack or color. It also allows parents to meet each other and make new friends. Santa is great at bringing people together.

When you arrive we will check you in at the front, when it is your turn to visit Santa, we will come find you. If you feel that your not ready or need more time, just let us know and we will move on to the next family, but continue to check in with you so your child has their time with Santa.

Our Santa is not limited to the typical “photo op.” Sometimes we get creative.
We accommodate the child/person within their levels of comfort. We will do our best, but we also know that it is a process. We are anything but TYPICAL. Our Santa also signs.

Due to space availability you may be asked to wait in your car until we can accommodate your family. If you have 5 or more, we ask that you call ahead and let us know what time you plan to attend so that we can prepare accordingly. Anyone planning to attend is welcome to let us know as well so that we can plan properly for everyone! Reservations are not “required” but a heads up would be helpful. 304-252-3730.

This Event is a Volunteer collaboration of The Beckley Department of Parks and Recreation, PNB, New River Community and Technical College Social Services Department, McDonalds of Beckley and The Early Show with Rick and Lola from 103CIR.

Bring your phones/cameras, take lots of pictures! We hope to make some magic happen!
