The New River Gorge National Park & Preserve
One of the World’s oldest rivers flows right through our backyard in the New River Gorge National Park & Preserve. The ancient waters of the New are home to all kinds of recreation, most notably world-class whitewater. Rafters from around the globe come to the Beckley-Raleigh County area as a launching point for trips down this one-of-a-kind river as it begins its journey through the great New River Gorge National Park.
Whitewater isn’t the only attraction in the river. Fishing in the National Park offers some of the best recreations anywhere. Fantastic trout streams tumble down from the rim of the gorge, enticing bait and fly fishers alike. The smallmouth bass of the New River are plentiful and wily. The New River Gorge National Park is a fishers’ paradise.

Winterplace Ski Resort has 30 trails for skiers and boarders of all abilities. Add a terrain park and the largest snow tubing capacity in West Virginia, and you’ve got the recipe for a good time all winter long.
