Every year, The Register-Herald partner with an organization to put on the Hunks in Heels event raising money for outstanding causes. This year, The Humane Society of Raleigh County and Newspapers in Education are partnering together for the event.

The Humane Society of Raleigh County strives to improve the lives of the homeless and unwanted animals in our county. They provide essential and sometimes lifesaving vet care, food, shelter, and loving care from our shelter employees. Hunks in Heels asks men of the community to get out of their comfort zone and take a walk in “heels”, using its shock value to draw attention and much needed funds to the groups being represented. The event also serves as a symbolic platform to raise awareness of the shelters true purpose as well as to encourage people to think of what it’s like to walk in someone else shoes. The “shoes” of not only the homeless, unwanted animals in our county, but also, for our employees and volunteers who carry the responsibility of caring for these animals on a daily basis.

This year’s event will be held on Friday March 13, 2020 at The Moose Lodge in Beckley, WV. The event is in its 7th year and promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Each year, we solicit donations from area businesses. We offer quality entertainment and present an enjoyable, friendly competition between our participants with 100% of the money raised going to The Humane Society of Raleigh County and Newspapers in Education. This year’s Hunks in Heels event will provide significant contributions to the fundraising efforts for literacy and animal care in Raleigh County.
