Fridays in the Park

Free concerts are held weekly during the summer at Word Park on Neville Street from 11:30 am until 1:00 p.m. Lunch vendors sell food items during the event.

The August line-up for Fridays in the Park begins with the Chris Oxley Quartet performing jazz music on August 2nd.

On August 9th, Doug & Shelley Harper, accompanied by Dave Fondale, will perform folk songs including some original songs about the local area, so you can take a step back in time and reminisce about Beckley.

The August 16 Friday will kick off with music by Scarlett Thred, a Christian band based at Memorial Baptist Church. Then around 12:15 p.m., Theatre WV will sing excerpts from “Rocket Boys – The Musical.” You can also learn more about the activities planned for Rocket Boys Festival that will be held in October.

The August 23rd Friday will celebrate the Appalachian Festival weekend with music by Lost Cannon Bluegrass Band and Shane Ingram and Friends.

On August 30, Tender Mercies will share gospel music in the park during this last musical Friday in the Park of the 2013 season.

The September 6th Friday will feature a baby contest and fair in conjunction with the Kids Classic Festival.

Uptown Tailgate Farmers Market

The farmers market continues at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Plaza off of Neville Street. Market hours are Mondays from 3 – 6 pm, Wednesdays & Fridays from 9 am – 1 pm. If you have extra produce that you would like to sell at the market, contact the WVU Extension Office at 304-255-9321 for set-up details.

Gold Rush Flea Market

This flea market continues to grow in vendors and customers weekly. Located at the Beckley Intermodal Gateway Parking Facility on Saturdays, vendors have the opportunity to set-up on the middle level so weather does not affect them. Pageants

Beckley’s Kids Classic Festival Miss, Teen, Ms. & Mrs. Pageant will be held at Tamarack on Saturday, August 3rd. The Festival’s Children’s Royalty Pageant is schedule for August 11th at the Youth Museum. The festival dates are Sept. 1 – 8.

Taste of Appalachia

As one of several events planned for the Appalachian Festival, Taste of Appalachia will be featured on Saturday, August 24th from 6 – 9 p.m. in uptown Beckley. The festive block party will offer a variety of food, entertainment & fun for all.

Entertainment will feature the New River Jazz Band performing at 6:00 p.m., followed by Clinton Collins and the Creek Boys at 7:00 p.m. Clinton Collins is an award-winning singer / songwriter from the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. His original songs are a blend of rock, country, blues, folk, gospel and mountain music. A Kids Zone area will be offered by Faith Community Church.

The event also offers an opportunity to take a Ghost Tour — a unique candlelit walking tour of historic sites in Beckley led by John Luckton. The tour will begin in front of the courthouse at 8:30 p.m. Please call 304-256-TOUR for reservations ($).
